  1. I just bought one! I know you have to keep there ears and eyes cleaned constantly. They are prone to ear infections. And they can be high maintenance dogs. But they are sooooo cute. I get so many compliments on my puppy when i bring her out. Her name is bella.

oh and check this website out. It tells you everything!

    good luck!

  2. A golden coat on a cocker spaniel is actually called buff.

Unfortunately Cocker Spaniels are prone to a lot of health problems, mostly because the immense popularity of this breed has led to poor breeding practices.

Cockers have a high chance of getting cancer, ear and eye infections, and many have skin allergies and require special diets. Some have terrible temperaments and a few are serious cases of "cocker rage".  Cocker Spaniels are actually one of the breeds of dogs that are most likely to bite other animals and humans.  Buying a puppy from a reputable breeder and raising the puppy in a safe and disciplined environment will prevent serious temperamental problems.

Cocker Spaniels are intelligent, but are high energy so you've got to give them an outlet or else they become destructive.  American Cockers require serious grooming, because of all their hair.  English Cockers require more exercise, but not as much grooming.  Avoid field line cockers if you're not able to provide it regular intense exercise.  Field bred cockers are serious hunters and should only be owned by people whose lifestyles fit that of an energetic and intelligent hunting dog.
