I would like a short break in Venice. When is the best time to go? When is it not too hot?

My husband and I are OAP's and therefore would only want a quiet hotel and to see the sights.

I went in May a couple of years ago, the weather was not hot or cold, it was nice but it did rain when I was there on and off but I was only there for two days.

u should come to Italy during Spring Break! its the perfect time to visit Venice!!

Spring time is beautiful BUT winter months is when I liked it most. The city is so quiet, cold but quiet, you won't find the crowd you find by Summer or during the Carnival. If you don't mind the cold, visit it in winter (you might even see the famous "acqua alta" - high water).

September/October is usually a pretty good time to be here. Then again in April/May. Of course, although it can be cold in February, Carnivale can be a fun time to be in Venice, but it will be crowded. I was in the city on Saturday and it was hot, but not unbearable.
