I am looking for the right stallion for my mare, I prefer it to be thoroughbred, quarter horse, saddle-bred, or paint. I wouldn't mind it to have some skill in barrel racing, western pleasure, or hunting/ jumping. I wouldn't mind a cheaper price, I will post a link to my mare! I will be picking a few of my favorite studs, and posting for your opinions...

Oh! yeah! I almost forgot. The stallion MUST be in Arizona!

  1. You love your horse, I know it! And you obviously want another horse to love, so did I. I wanted a foal too, but you know what? SO many horses die in slaughterhouses every day, and I decided, why not rescue a horse that is going to go to slaughter? They will probably appreciate the love even more than a foal, since they know what's going to happen to them. A foal just grows up knowing love, but what if that foal eventually ended up at a slaughter house? And then someone rescued him? I think he would love you even more. PLEASE go rescue a horse if you have space! You can even rescue foals, weanlings, pregnant mares (if you have room for 2 more) etc. and get the same experience, but know that you've saved one horse from ending up on a plate in France. Sad fact, but true.

  2. You should breed only to a purebred  horse, so you can register the foal. There are WAYY TOOOO many "mutt" horses out there that can't get sold or even givin away! Save a horse instead of creating one! There are many that need to help them! Here is a link for horses in AZ for cheap!

Here are horses that are closer to what you want. & You don't want a Saddlebred,a paint, or quarter for jumping. Yes they can but there are much better breeds out there for what you want. & Can find them the same prices. Good luck!

  3. First off you must ask yoursefl WHY are you breeding?

Is there a job your mare cannot perform that needs a young rowdy horse to do?

Why can you mare not perform said task? Is she too old, not enough endurance, not gentle enoug to be ridden.

Or are you wanting to breed simply for a novelty of it? To tell your friends you bred a horse?

If so maybe you should look into joing a horse game on the internet rather then forcing your mare to go through a pregnancy that might not even turn out the foal you desire.

I would look into instead of breeding your mare becasue of the expense then to get a foal from soemone who has already bred a horse. It would be easier for you if all you want is to have a pet horse to train yourself.

However if you think you can handle the high costs and care of breeding and raising a foal then look for a stallion whoms traits COMPLIMENT your mares traits. Look for a stud with good confirmation, temperment that is bombproof, and many winnings or working hours under his belt.

  4. I know a way to .find lovely studs. Go to www.enquinenow.com.they can choose state, breed ,color, name, anything! The studs are so lovely!

  5. Again..........Huge "sigh"

  6. The horse abandonment problem is steadily on the rise in Arizona, and it appears that you live in Arizona.  You have the right to do any darned fool thing you want to, but why do you want to?

Adopt a foal and train it.

  7. okay..

after looking at your mare, the stallion should be a paint.

if you want it cheap, then it will be hard to find a well trained stallion with good bloodlines, especially with hunter/jumpers, which is my favorite.

and if you dont exactly know what you're looking for, then don't try to find the stallion yet.

  8. I will tell you right now that this is the worst time for breeding. Backyard breeders are one of the top contributors to this problem. I understand you want  a foal, so buy one don't breed. Everytime you breed more horse go to the auction because people can't afford them and thus they go to slaughter. So look for a healthier alternative as buying a foal or even better look into a rescue for horse that are skilled in jumping or have the body type

  9. Please don't breed. With the horse market the way it is right now, it's hard enough for the REAL breeders to sell, let alone backyard breeders like you. You don't even really know what you're looking for! Buy a horse that needs a home instead.

    ** EDIT **

LOL I'm sorry, but I hardly know where to begin! You say you want to keep it, but also that you're wanting a "jumping horse" because they're expensive. WELL-TRAINED, WELL-BRED jumpers are expensive because of the planning, time, energy and money that was put into the breeding and then the training of the foal.

Your horse CAN learn more. All horses can learn more than they currently do. Your horse is very cute, and not too small to jump. She just can't jump as high as a taller horse would. But how high she can jump doesn't factor in as much as how WELL she can jump.

If you were serious about a good breeding, you'd also be looking into AI breeding to a very good stallion, and not simply looking for one locally. But if you're just wanting a baby to raise, please look into maybe getting a PMU foal. But don't forget that with any baby, be it your own or a purchased foal, you're going to need a good trainer. I've been riding most of my life and still do not consider myself skilled enough to train a young horse.

I wasn't trying to be rude with my first statement, just realistic.
