  1. Presume that your in the UK as I'm only viewing UK and Ireland answers!!

Yeah i have to echo what trevor said - DO NOT!!!!! go with instructor college, have a friend who has trained with them and found them extremely unsupportive - all they're after is your money!!

What do you want to know really? I could tell you LOADS but would probably bore you to tears and run out of room - I've been an instructor in Warwickshire since 2006, i trained with BSM who were quite expensive, but extremely good trainers - but i think to be honest - it depends on WHO is training you not which company they work for!!

Stayed with BSM for a few months but was far to expensive paying the ridicuous franchise fee, so hired a dual control car for a year http://www.goinstruct.co.uk -  kept my fingers crossed, set up a website http://www.davejonesdriving.co.uk and never looked back! last month my hire car ran out, but instead of hiring again, i bought one - very scary but so far so good :)

If you have any questions just give us a shout - I'm sure trevor above would answer any questions if you contacted him too - us driving instructors are a friendly bunch!! :)

  2. In the UK Julie?

Find a Driving School that teaches Driving Instructors - don't use the Instructor College, yhey are poor and expensive.  I trained with LDC - Learner Driving Centres (check out their webpage)

    training is in 3 parts

    1. Hazard Perception & ADI Theory

    2. Part 2 Driving Test

    3. Test of Instructional Ability.

Total cost should be around £2,500

Good Luck - (I would definitely recommend LDC - top class 1 to 1 Instruction)

  3. Pre-requisites vary from state to state/province to province, so check with your DMV or talk to a licenced Driving Instructor for further information.

UCANTCME has some good information for you too.

As well as the qualifications, you need to think about whether you are a people person, whether you have a lot of patience with teens and new immigrants, and whether you are prepared to work evenings and weekends.

You should also be able to explain things and get your message across in a positive and encouraging manner.

A lot of Driving Instructors work part time at it, as well as another job..........due to the "one on one" nature of this job, it can burn you out if you work too many hours.

    Good luck!

  4. Becoming a driving instructor is a fairly straightforward process. It may vary slightly from state to state, but the process will be similar throughout the country. State statutes and regulations govern how to become a driving instructor.

Associate yourself with a certified driving school before you apply to become a certified driver education instructor.

Obtain a certification packet from your state's driver instructional services division.

Make sure you satisfy the minimum requirements before you apply. You must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or its equivalent and a valid license to drive the type of vehicle you will be certified to teach.

Pass a criminal background check and a driving record check.

Complete any required driver education certification courses.

    Demonstrate proficiency in English.

Verify your employment with a certified driver education school as an instructor.

Additional Driver Education Training and Jobs

Decide whether you want to teach in a high school or for a driver education school.

Find out if community colleges offer associates' degrees in driver education.

Get a college degree. Teaching at a high school will require a college degree and certification by the state in driver education.
