  1.   I guess some people just need a god.

  2. The reasons for people believing in a god are wishful thinking, hallucination, and tradition.

The question "if there is a god" is too hypothetical for me. I also do not consider what would change "if there is a flying spaghetti monster".

  3. It's weakness and insecurity. Such people always look for a father or mother figure. In a way, faithful people never grow up and become independent.

  4. Not an atheist, but I have to ask why you'd think people come up with the idea of a God.  It's a very natural and human thing to do to look at the world around us and wonder where it came from.  That doesn't sound like inventing a God to me.

The real question is why some people feel they need to tailor God to their own specifications regarding things like sin and judging.

But - we all wonder about the nature of God.

  5. It was a good way to keep people in check back then, like a santa for grown-ups.

  6. Religion is a security blanket for the weak, and a means of total power and control for the people on top.

Satan was created by the human ego - The human ego is our worst enemy and it is so smart that it created the Devil just so we would have someone else to blame for everything.

  7. Study the Greek Mythology for a week and ask yourself why did the ancient Greeks (one of the greatest civilizations ever) need to create Zeus, Artemis, Poseidon, Echo etc.

To explain the world around them and to give their life meaning and definition.

  8. Political control and fiscal gain.

  9. A lazy explanation on how it all started and an opportunity for the clergy to make a living on it controlling religious people!

  10. people came up with the idea of a "God" because they needed to explain things which they werent able to understand at that time, like rain, thunder, why are we here etc.

    religion is to control people.

    There isnt god.

  11. why do you think people come up with the idea of "a God": Cuz they're dumb.

what is the purpose behind it?   Cuz they're dumb.

And if there is a God what would it change? .... N/A!!!

    I'm Atheist!

  12. I'm not saying i don't believe in some sort of a god just not the sitting in a throne in heaven with streets made of gold god. My own personal opinion is that religion is a definite means of control!

  13. I think when the people first looked at the Earth, only another being could have created it to be so wonderful. It also brings hope to people if they are lonely or afraid of death and helps laws. I don't consider myself an Atheist or Christian,

If there is a God, good :) I look forward to meeting him.

    If not, :( oh well.

  14. They idea of god evolved from the ancient man's ignorance and inability to explain the phenomena in nature.  God was his attempt to explain that which he couldn't understand.  Later on, the god delusion took on the place of false hope, a security blanket for the meek-minded and, all along, it has been manipulated and fueled by really smart and wicked men who use the superstition to their advantage and personal gain

  15. The way I see it, they came up with it to explain things.

And is that last sentence of yours a loose version of Pascal's Wager?

  16. To explain things they can't explain with limited knowledge - lightning, thunder, storms etc.

Its a crutch to the unenlightened.

    Can't happen.

    peace

  17. ok

  18. Humans came up with the idea of gods.  We did it frequently, it's like our first and worst attempt to explain the universe we live in.

  19. I suppose that it gave us a chance to exercise natural tribal instincts, as well as providing a blanket answer to those questions which were beyond us, but troubling to our inquisitive minds.

God makes a good alpha male.

  20. Humanity is inherrently Weak and born with the inbred need to worship and be servile.

Mankind needs to feel that he's a part of something bigger.

Young gang members have told me that very same thing when I asked them why they join gangs.
