  1. I'll eat my hat if it is not a changed spelling of a German name.  Don't hate it!  It's nice to be unique!

Moreover, when I googled it, I found it not to be so unusual.  Mine is rarer than that, which means more people misspell it...

Hey, just so the bank honors the checks and your spouse gets it right, right?

  2. There are several  names beginning with Kann :-

    Kann

    Last name origins & meanings:

German, Danish, and Jewish (Ashkenazic): from Middle High German, Middle Low German, Danish kanne, German Kanne ‘jug’, ‘flagon’ (Latin canna), hence a metonymic occupational name for a maker or seller of jugs, or in some cases possibly a habitational name for someone who lived at a house or tavern distinguished by the sign of a flagon.

German (Austria): from a short form of the personal name Candidus.

Jewish (Ashkenazic): one of the many forms of Cohen.

    Example :-

    Kannenberg

    Last name origin & meaning:

German: habitational name from Kannenberg (literally ‘jug mountain’) near Magdeburg.

    Appel : German for apple

    (Apfel : N.German for apple)

  3. IDK, but the Church of the Latter Day Saints (Mormons) have a very extensive genealogical database.  They might be a good place to check.
