This link should contain all the information that you require.

  4. It is a new A1 class pacific locomotive. The original class was introduced on the London and North Eastern Railway by A.H. Peppercorn, the then Chief Mechanical Engineer. None survived the end of steam.

The new locomotive was built at Darlington and carries the number 60163 and the name, 'Tornado'. It is the first main-line steam locomotive to be built in the UK since 1960 and also the 1,000th since 1948.

It has been built as far as possible to the original design but a few modifications have been made to cope with 21st century operation.

It is now being tested and will soon move to the Great Central Railway to be put through its paces.

If all goes well it is hoped that the loco will enter main-line passenger service next year.

  5. it moved under its own power yesterday only a short move

it is called Tornado and is a continuation of a class that was not saved try and buy a copy of STEAM RAILWAY MAGAZINE for more info

  6. yes, follow the link from what fellside issued, hope to see her on the G.c.r end of aug, they say!

  7. It is a new build of a Peppercorn Pacific Locomotive, the only class of LNER pacific locomotives that did not make it into preservation. What people do with their money is, of course, a matter for them, but in all honesty I have to wonder whether this was the best class to 'new build'. But it is a credit to the team's dedication and hard work and has started a whole new trend for new build, rather than restoration. Personally, I hope I shall live long enought to see the 'Brighton Atlantic' running on the Bluebell/
