I am planning to install air source heat in my house in the loft space to capture all the heat that is available in the loft.I feel as the temp is slightly more than the out side temp in winter times I may be able extract the heat that is available in the loft

Is this sensible and workable?? Thanks

  1. We have owned 3 large single family homes and I agree with RON plus the only air source heat device to push warm air downward on a particular level that might work would be a ceiling fan in reverse...but as far as exactly how much warmer or the benefits you would overall gain throughout your entire home is questionable?

You did not exactly identify whether your home is heated by gas furnace? heat pump? oil? or the size and how many levels it has and whether it is air tight etc or its age...FYI we live in a huge colonial with high ceilings and actually had to have a 2nd HVAC unit intalled on one of our 2 attic floors bec otherwise, my wife complained what's the point in living in an expensive home if you can't live in comfort.  FYI the method we regulate the temperature is with 2 programmable thermostats. one on each HVAC system and of course make adjsutments based on our utilities. Also I might add upper levels and basements are much tougher challenges and a lot in my unprofessional opinion has to do with the location of airflow registers that some particular deadzone areas might require supplemental heaters.

    Hope the Above Info Helps!

  2. Not workable. There is not enough available volume up there to heat your house sufficiently. Good thought but will not work in practice.
