I would like to ask about the medicine called Neupogen Filgrastim?

Its for cancer and the doctor has recommended it for my friend, has anyone tried it before or know about it?

  1. I used both Neupogen and Neulasta.  They are injections given to boost white blood cell production.  White blood cells are rapidly reproducing cells, like cancer cells, so the chemo affects them too.

    Neupogen is given daily and the number of days depends on the results of the patients blood count.  Neulasta is one shot the day after the chemo treatment, easier to administer but more expensive.

    There are side effects for some people, the most common being bone pain most often in the hips and thighs.  Generally the side effects can be controlled with Advil or the like.  I found the bone pain to be less with Neupogen.


  2. The medicine is not used to treat cancer, but as a supplement for chemo treatments.

    I have never tried it before.
