  1. Take the TRAIN it's the easiest and quickest.

  2. Train is the best method of travel.

Go to www.trenitalia.it and search for connections between Milano Centrale and Venezia St. Lucia. You get various options like Eurostar, Intercity and you can choose depending on the price and time of travel. Eurostar should be the fastest and take you in 2.5 to 3 hours. You can even reserve a seat from the website and choose ticketless travel which allows you to print your booking confirmation from the website.

The main city of Venice (i.e. the canals, San Marco, etc) is located just outside St. Lucia. If you are spending just a night in Venice, please book a hotel in the city centre. Please note that hotels are also located in Venezia Mestre (which is a suburban district one station before St. Lucia). if you choose a hotel here, it would be a 10-15 min bus ride to St. Lucia.

Vaporettos from St. Lucia to San Marco will cost very less. Tickets can be bought on the water-bus. I think there is a concept like a day travelcard costing 9 euros. But I am really not sure of the price now as I had been to Venice 3 years ago. The vaporetto stops at various places along the Grand Canal and the total journey from St. Lucia to San Marco should be anything between 20-40 mins.
