  1. April......capital A.

Sorry, I just read your useless answer to a guy looking for advice, and I couldn't help myself.

mind your own Trinity, Ive got plenty.

  2. yes that is what happens at a breeze up. i've been to one at newmarket & they are very interesting but it would be better if you can afford to bid.

p.s. to the previous answerer - why bother making comments like that? it's just a waste of time.

  3. Yes, all lots will "breeze" (this is not normally a flat out gallop, just an extended canter) on the racecourse, as they do at the two Newmarket sales and the Goffs sale which is held at Kempton.

Normally they breeze the horses in the morning and sell in the evening, though some of the largert sales will breeze all horses on one day and sell them the next.

Our breeze ups are very different to the American two year old sales as over there it is all about times.  The two year olds have their breezes timed and the times are then reported to the potential buyers.  I know a lot of consignors and buyers over here are very worried about this practise coming over here as it puts too much strain on the two year olds too early in the season.  Last year a Storm Cat colt that was expected to make a lot of money collapsed and died of heart failure after putting in a fast piece of work, and don't forget that The Green Monkey breezed in a stunning time (I don't think it was quite a world record, but it was darn fast!) and he has not exactly set the world on fire!

To get back to the point, when each horse is breezed the jockey will wear a coloured cap so that you can distinguish the horses.  Some will breeze alone, others will breeze in pairs and occasionally groups of three or four.  It is quite common for a consignor to show off a good horse by breezing him with one of their slower horses so that people will see the good horse moving past the slower one.
