  1. I don't know about medicine in England, just Mexico so I can't say about school entry requirements.

As a general doctor you can work in private clinics. You can choose to work in many fields (hospitals, private clinics, research, etc..) when you choose for a specialty. Obviously you don't expect a dermatologist to be routinely in an operating room, right? And you won't be seeing an anesthesiologist in a private practise either unless the practise is a surgery clinic.

There's many positives & negatives (cost of intuition, little free time, in the case of Mexico you have to wear a uniform, etc...). Many of the factors are in your personality. Do you squeal when you see blood? Do you find operating and then sacrificing a dog in the basic surgery course wrong? Are you persistant or do you give up easily when a teacher is a jerk or when a course material is too boring? Are you the kind of person that will punch a teacher in the face when he justly gives you a bad grade? Are you willing to keep up with the partying and showing up late at class with a hangover every day?

And yes, many doctors that will be your teachers are jerks with god complexes, others can be the coolest party loving people ever. But during class hours you'll still have to be professional, wear a tie even if you hate it and if a teacher demands you to shave and cut off your hair, you'll have to obey like a lap dog. When you finish your residency you can dress up the way you feel like, but when you're a student, you have to dress up the way your teachers expect you to.

If you can't imagine living without waist long dreadlocks and will never be seen wearing a tie, medicine isn't the career for you. You can still be a party animal of course if you're not doing it every night.
