  1. Yes, they are very common. Sometimes they are called ACP's (alternative certification programs). You can easily do a search for ACP's in your state, but keep in mind:

    1. Not all ISD's accept the same programs so check with the district you want to work for

    2. You will need to pay for the program (around $3,600) during your intern year.

    3. You will have to meet certain requirements BEFORE you can enter the program, so have your documents ready (college transcripts, proof of graduation, etc)

    4. Depending on the program you choose, you will have to do outside training and take content and state required exams.

    I used A+ Teachers (aka txteachers.org) and I loved the program. They are very flexible and the support is great!
