cam should i opt for a HDD or DVD??whts the difference,which is the long run profitable one?Im opting for sony brands.im mentioning the features can u tell me which one is the better option to buy?

  1. DO NOT BUY A DVD BASED CAMCORDER. The video is a pain to get to, the discs are a pain to deal with. The resulting video is the worst quality.

    If these are our only choices, the DCR-SR82.

    Digital zoom is irrelevant and should be turned off and NEVER used.

    MiniDV tape continues to provide the best available video quality. because the video stored on the tape is not very compressed in DV format.

    Internal hard drive based consumer camcorders store using a pretty highly compressed MPEG2 method - this is OK quality, but not as good as miniDV tape. By the way, if you fill up the hard drive, and you don't have your computer around to move the video files, what are you planning to do? You have two choices: Delete files you have not yet transfered or stop capturing video. With miniDV tape, just carry extra tape. Fill one, pop it out, lock it, pop in another one...
