Question:

I would like to dedicate my life to The Lord through work in the Peace Corps......?

However, my two loves are food science and how natural vitamins found in certain foods affect the body/health and second, social work for the detrimentally impoverished-with little regard to income.... I don't care.

Anyhow I'm just starting college and was just wondering how I combine the two and what degree would be most prominent to seek.

  1. Unfortunately I don't see what the Peace Corps has to do with your question.

Almost nobody dedicates their lives to the Peace Corps.  It's only a 27 month assignment for volunteers.  There are some people who do it two or three times but then they have to stop at some point.

Peace Corps employees can only work there for 5 years then they are forced to move on to a different government agency.

Don't worry about Peace Corps right now.  Start thinking about it when you are a junior or senior.

It sounds like you should study biology, chemistry or something in that field and then go to medical school or major in Social Work.   Nutrition may be a good major for you as well.

  2. Peace Corps is a secular organization....................

  3. Nutrition sounds like it would be a good fit. You could help educate people about how to take care of themselves. I think that would be a great way to help people. Even if you wanted to stay in the states, there are plenty here that are malnourished and don't know how to get a healthy, diverse diet from their meager grocery budgets. Sounds like worthy work to me.

  4. You'd do better in a missionary organization. The Peace Corps doesn't allow you to proselytize, for two reasons. First, host countries invite PCVs to come an nurse, teach,or engineer, not to convert th epopulace or witness for the Lord. Second, the US Government can't say that Methodists are right and Presbyterians ar wrong; or, in a wider sense, Christians are right and Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs and all the rest are wrong.

  5.                                                                                                                    God bless you, your two loves are putting you on the right path. In my opinion you should focus on growing healthy food and proper preparation for maximum health. 30 years ago I was introduced to a natural vitamin company that inadvertantly helped save my life.    After two motercycle accidents the docters said both times that if not for my health I would not have survived.

  6. Those two loves are a perfect fit. People need to eat wherever you are. You could teach proper nutrition anywhere in the world. When you finish college and have your degree in nutrition, the world will be waiting.

    God Bless You.
