  1. Buy a GCSE Maths and GCSE English Textbook or Revision Guide from W H Smith or Waterstones.  And work through them at your own pace.

Then in January speak to someone in the Exams Office of your Local College, and ask them if they accept private candidates for the exams.  If they do, they will charge you a small fee (varies between Colleges) to order the exam paper for you.  Then at Easter they will send you a letter saying where and when you have to turn up to to do the exam.

Do NOT approach ICS as they will take your money and run.  Nearly 7 years ago I started doing a GCSE with them, I asked a question and I am STILL waiting for an answer - seriously.

  2. I would recommend ICS if you are after a correspondence course:

There is also NEC, but I don't know what they are like

Both of the above charge around £300 per subject

However, take a look at Little Arthur

    http://www.littlearthur.org.uk/

They do the IGCSEs rather than GCSE. IGCSEs are a little more difficult than GCSEs but are increasingly becoming more highly thought of than the normal GCSE. Also Little Arthur is much less expensive than NEC or ICS at around £145 per course. They are also highly recommended by many home-educated families.

The least expensive way is to just use text-books and pay to sit the exam.  Maths is no problem and I would recommend the STP Mathematics books 7-11 for GCSE.  They are published by Nelson Thornes:

Unfortunately English does require coursework and a speaking test so you will have to find a centre that will monitor your coursework and allow you to sit the exam there.  IGCSE English does not require coursework.

Take a look at the syllabus for each board and see which one suits your requirements:

    OCR

    AQA

    EdExcel

    WJEC

Some specifications do require coursework for maths.

IGCSE specs can be found as follows:

    Cambridge International

EdExcel International (greater choice of centres but an administrative nightmare!)

    Best of luck!
