I currently live in England and would like to find a job on board a cruise ship starting in the new year... Jan 09... any tips??

I have no hotel experience, but 6 years of finance experience, so was thinking a role of a purser might suit me.

Any information about the job, how to get it or even if you think I might be suited for another sort of role will be appreciated!!!!!

  1. All I can tell you is that this will be a fun job!!  With financial experience, you will get a job. Have fun while you're young! I am going on my first cruise in February. I am 58 and we are going 30 ladies! Many of us our first cruise. We are going on Carnival Fantasy for a 5 day cruise to Cozumel/Progresso in the western Caribbean. Maybe we will see you there! Good luck!!!

  2. You need to contact the cruise lines directly. On their web sites you will find a link to jobs, employment, human resources or some such link that will give you information about their positions. Some sites even have current vacancies they are recruiting for. Several cruise lines have new ships coming out soon so opportunities will be there. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Disney and some others will have new ships launched in the next couple years.

    Here are some links:

    The luxury cruise lines are:

I know that on Royal Caribbean's site if you go to the bottom of their home page and click on OUR COMPANY it will take you to a page where career opportunities are listed by category: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/ourCompany...

Then there are more links that will let you see and download job requirements. Celebrity Cruise line is a RC affiliate and so you should be able to get similar information from them the same way. here's a link to their jobs page: http://www.celebritycruises.com/aboutcel...

    Here's Norwegian Cruise line: http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruiser/cmsPag...

Another thing to do is to contact the concession that run the shops on the ships like the souvenir, gift and clothing shops. Below are links for you.

  3. A purser might be a good fit, although they usually want some type of front desk experience.

Other things could be, financial controller, accounting,  crew payroll, crew admin, something in the casino.

You can do as Tinkertoy suggested and contact the cruise lines directly.  However, that rarely works, especially for shipboard positions.  If you are looking for an officer job or something at the corporate office, that would probably be the way to go.

However, if you are looking for a crew/staff position aboard ship, your odds are better if you go through a hiring partner.  Unfortunately I don't know of an U.K. based hiring partners.

    Although you can try http://www.cast-a-way.co.uk

A good hiring partner will never charge you a fee, as they are paid by the cruise line.
