I am a 20 year old female and crave to adopt from abroad to give a child in a country other than my own(UK) because I want to give it opportunities it would not have in its own country. I don't want to adopt just yet. I want to adopt in 9 years time from now. Many of the laws are changing and stopping intercountry adoption, what is people's opinions on whether it'll still be around in 9 years? I know I will be in a stable job by that time as I currently attend uni and look forward to getting a stable carreer so I can bring up a child. I also am in a stable straight relationship of two years living together which is going great. I do want to have children of my own but I still would love to adopt. How long does adoption cases take? How much will it cost to prepare for this? any help would be great! I want to be as prepared as I can for this.

Current article in Mother Jones on the tribulations of global adoption - lots of comments!

"Many of the laws are changing and stopping intercountry adoption, what is people's opinions on whether it'll still be around in 9 years?"

I imagine that adoption into the UK will still be going on in 9 years, but who knows.

I'd suggest reading many books on adoptees and their experience to help you prepare.  If you need suggestions on titles, just ask.

"How long does adoption cases take? How much will it cost to prepare for this?"

The length of time for an adoption varies, as does the cost.  You can use the library and the Internet for information over the next nine years to help prepare.

    Hope this helps!
