  1. I have been on many cruises so I'll share what I know from experience.

Most cruises are done by the next tier of cruise lines like Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Princess, Celebrity, Cunard, Holland America, and Disney. Most of the ships for these lines are now 1500 to 2500 passenger ships. The ships are big but things are so well managed that you really don't feel crowded on them. Prices on these ship can be as low as $800 for a 7 day inside cabin and about $1200 for a balcony cabin.

Each guest will have to pay a cruise fare based on the double occupancy rate for the ship, cabin type and date that you select.  Some cabin can hold 4 people and if you want to put more people together you may want to look into getting a suite or two which sleep more people.

The first rule in getting less expensive cruises is book early. The second rule is shop around for specials. Most cruise lines will list their specials or discount cruises right on their web site. Carnival and Royal Caribbean I have found do the best job of listing specials and their sites are much easier than other to navigate. Also, if you want the best price for everyone, don't lock yourself in to one particular week of the year; or plan to go on a specific date like a birthday or anniversary, wedding, be flexible.  The wedding package is a separate fee from the cruise fee.

The price of your cruise will include your cabin, all meals (except the specialty restaurants), all shows and entertainment, and use of all facilities on ship. The additional things that you will have to pay for are:

GRATUITIES: They will amount to about $10 per person in your cabin per day; about $70 each for the week. When you check in at the pier they will set up an on-board charge account for you to cover any and everything you may buy on ship. They will issue you a "cruise card" which will also serve as your room key and pass to get on and off the ship. At the end of the cruise they will add the gratuity to your tab and you can pay with a credit card or cash, your choice. All cruise lines are now also charging a $5.00 per person per day fuel surcharge (max of $70 per guest per sailing).

ALCOHOLIC DRINKS AND SOFT DRINKS: Coffee, tea, milk, juice, and lemonade and punch will be provided free but you must pay for drinks (alcoholic beverages) and they will add a 15% gratuity to each drink of soft drink order.

PHOTOGRAPHS: Cruise lines will take plenty of photographs of you all over the ship, in the dining room, and as you exit the ship in ports. These will cost a lot, like $15 to $20 for most. Skip them and save yourself a lot of money. Take your own camera and have the other passengers photograph you on and off the ship.  If you want the best photos by the ship its best to have them taken on one of the formal nights when there are multiple photo stations.  Then too you can probably arrange for the ship to photograph your wedding.

TOURS/EXCURSIONS: These are listed on your cruise line web site and you can reserve them well before the cruise and pay for them also. If you wait until you are on ship to book tours they will be charged to your on board account (then you can pay cash to settle your account on the last day)

SOUVENIRS: Anything you buy on ship from a gift shop or duty free shop goes on your on board account. Things that you buy on shore you pay cash or credit card for.

CASINO: If you plan to gamble on ship you will need cash for that.

OTHER: most cruise lines have what they call "specialty" restaurants where there is a gratuity/service charge. All other food on board is free and its not really necessary to budget for food; you cannot eat all that will be available.

If you want/need to have your hair done, get a massage or wrap, or any services from the spa, you will have to pay for them. You can use the gym free but the spa stuff cost big bucks.

Ships now have internet cafe and some have WiFi but the there is a fee for internet access and it is very expensive (like about $50 to $60 an hour).

Your cabin will likely have a minibar with soft drinks and munchies; you have to pay for them (but there is free room service 24/7).

  2. You and your guests would have to book your cruise either independently or as a group. You would then have to book your wedding ceremony as an extra. The cost of this would depend on how lavish you would wish it to be.

The ceremony would take place on a day when the ship is in port.

I would advise you to contact the cruise line directly and find out exactly what the various packages cost and exactly what you get  for your money.

If you do get married on a cruise you may need to have your marriage ratified in your own country when you return home.

  3. You pay for your cruise, and the "wedding" package. Most cruise lines offer them, so go to each website and search. Or, try vacationstogo.com and search on the left link for weddings. Packages vary, like all weddings. Remember, NO ONE except passengers get on board.. :(   , so only people who pay get on, and are part of the wedding.BUT a great  alternative is a "pre-sail" bon voyage brunch. Friends and relatives can meet to see you off- ----think "rehearsal dinner",  sort of. That way they can participate without actually sailing. And a brunch can be an affordable "party".  Some local hotel or restaurant can do this. Or set up by family in a hotel room with ready made stuff- donuts, juices, fruit platters, coffee.... You get the idea....

Also, if you set up with a travel agent, as a group, you could get your cruise for free. 8 cabins minimum, I think.....

Remember though, you are "stuck" with your family and friends on board then for your "honeymoon". I love it, but others may not. Congrats and good luck!
