children's party.............. dress as favourite children's TV personalities...... serve cheese on sticks stuck into a grapefruit, triangle cut sandwiches, pizza slices, crisps, chocolate fingers and the MUST HAVE JELLY and ICE CREAM. and hire an adults bouncy castle if you can, play kids party games with adult prize for the winners.

my wife and I are both forty this year and this is the theme for our party, our Friends say they cant wait to re-live their youth.

what about friends   as in tv series  and you can ask everyone to brin a dish of whatever thet do best so all the food prep is shared  i am sure her best friend or mum would help organise this  or what about childrens tv character theme

What is she into? What are her hobbies?  Can you do a theme party, like a garden theme, tea party, casino party, etc.  Something that she really likes that you can incorporate into the party.  Or decorate into the party.

You could decorate in the color of her birthstone color, have the theme of her favorite flower, if she's into Hollywood and celebrities, do a Hollywood glam party with a red carpet entrance, etc.

Go by what she's into, her hobbies, what she enjoys doing in her free time.  

It's very sweet that you want to do this for her, whatever you do she's going to appreciate and love you for!

My husband and 2 of my closest friends threw me a surprise old hollywood themed party last year.  They requested all the guests dress in black or white.  They hung posters of old hollywood stars on the walls and draped the ceiling with some black tulle (from a fabric store).  They had all the tables draped in black tablecloths and had amazing food and drinks.  They also decorated using white tealight candles and pillar candles all over the place.  They even laid out a red carpet going up the front walkway and they hung stars over the food tables and sprinkled them with star shaped confetti.   They had a slideshow of pictures of me throughout my life with baby pics and pics of me with friends and family cycling through in the background.  It was an amazing and beautiful party that I will never forget.
