Thanks for all your advice so far. Here are more detail. I had a rug with the foam floor gripper pad with the holes in it and when I picked up the carpet there was the shadow on the hardwood floor where the sun did not hit it. Also I can see little round marks from the holes in the rubber matting. I'm not sure if those will fade. We paid $70.00 to have felt backing put on a small rug and I thought I could do it myself when we bought a bigger rug. Movement may not be a problem on two of the rugs because there will be furniture them. But, I will be getting a new hall runner and that will need have some rubber padding. I will research more on the suggestions I got from all of you. Thanks so much. I'll look for any further advice you might give me.

  1. spray adhesive

  2. You can buy non slip mats to put under your rug to hold it in position, no adhesive required. This can be purchased from many DIY stores. If you need to glue felt to carpet you can use the following adhesive. Look around for the one linked to below

  3. If you use felt it would make them slip on the hard wood floors perhaps a rug gripper pad under them would be better? But if you do use felt and glue you can get Fabric glue at Michaels craft store and it will be washable.
