  1. Hey Maricela, I just got to Guadalajara from the states; Is true about the money, you might want to save some at least to cover your first couple months. Is not true about the job. There is a lot of Business going on in here, a lot of jobs are for people who speak english, you might be a good candidate for that too.

Living expenses are pretty affordable and the Living here is very similar to the US.  Pretty cool malls, cool Brands, Starbucks, Applebees, Sams Club, Costco and the greatest movie theters i've been are all in here.

Come take a look, and enjoy.

Good Luck in your Travel plans.

  2. Its a beautiful city but you have to familiarize you self also before you decide to live there, the transportation is a pain in the butt and it takes awhile to get used to.

  3. Our daughter wanted to go to Mexico to "get rid  of stress".....this was 15 years ago....when we reminded her she could not afford it and we were not paying for it.......guess what......she went BACK to college and is now....an adult, paying her own bills.  If you have the money behind you to move, hang out, and pay your own way...............go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. SAve up your money b/c you will not be able to work there legally. Almost impossible. There is no work. Mexico has the highest unemployment around.

  5. i lived there for one year.  i actually lived in morelia which is 5 hours south of guadalajara.  i stayed one summer there too.  it is a great city if not one that is growing "too fast for its britches" so to speak.

about the only job you can get is one that a mexican would not be qualified for.  in other words.  the company cannot find any qualified applicants....and they tried (documented proof necessary)

that leave such things as teaching english which i did.  i did not have a work permit but the job was legit. i got paid through their stipend fund.

i am sure there are other jobs, but you have to have some expertese that no one else would have.  in my case, it was native speaking ability and a degree in education and foreign languages.

you can live there super cheeply if you do it right.  i rented a home for 50 dollars a month plus utilities which were gas (cooking gas) water, electric, garbage, cable tv and the like.  of course my room was tiny and i shared a comon room where us guys cooked.

if you do your homework, you can do yourself well.

NOTE, this was all done in 1996.  the prices have gone WAY up.  besides, i was in morelia which is a town of 700,000 and not 7 million.

    good luck.

  6. well to live in guadalajara u must be prepared to a whole different world. people, places, jobs, and everything elese money, and always talking espanish. and all that u must be prepared to. good luck!

  7. It would be a great adventure and great experience for you.  It takes a few months to adjust.  My husband worked in Guadalajara from Sept. 1999 thru Nov. 2003 and we lived in a small village about 25 minute drive from the city...it was the best of both worlds.  My husband worked for a US company located there and had the necessary visas, etc. required to work there.  I didn't have the necessary requirements to work.  If you plan to work while in Mexico, try finding a job with a US company who has a location and openings there before you leave.  The climate is awesome in Guadalajara year-round.  It is easy to get around by bus and taxi...driving can be crazy in the city.  It's also easy to take buses around the country so visit as many places as you can while you're there...I'd recommend Patzcuaro, San Miguel de Allende, Manzanillo and you have to go to Puerto Vallarta just because you're so close but Punta Mita is less touristy. The more Spanish you speak, the better off you are.  We loved it and would love to go back, especially to the village we lived in.  Good luck!
