  1. Carnations will not grow year round north of zone 8. In these zones they need to replanted every year. Check your zone here:

  2. Grow the perpetual flowering type, hey are bought as rooted cuttings of names varieties in the early spring, and the plants will flower from summer onwards in 7'' pots. To get the best blooms in winter, give the plants a bright position and do not let the temp fall below 10C (50F),except for short periods.The young plants must be 'stopped', pinch top off leading shoot, and the stems that develop must be disbudded to allow only one flower on each shoot. When purchasing from nurseries they are normally already 'stopped'.
