  1. My sister has one and they are high energy and get bored.  If they get bored they can be naughty.  Walks and playtime should help with that.

  2. If you are very expeirenced with dogs Maby.

If you are asking this question NO.

They are not all cute like wishbone. High maintence dog that needs lots of attention and exercise.

  3. Hello. I'm owned and operated by 6 Jack Russell Terriers. Like someone said before, we have always had a Jrt in this family. Mainly because we breed them.

I've shown, worked, and studied them for 9 YEARS. And I've loved everyday of it.

In my opinion, they are awesome dogs to have! But not everyone is up to the challenge of a terrier, much less a Jrt. They are definitely not a dog for anyone.

However, if you think you have what it takes...  yes, they can be extremely loving, and loyal. They are hyper, with lots of energy and will need plenty of exercise. They are a very determined little terrier. They have the heart of a lion. They have a very strong will.

They don't back down from things just because they're big. They stand up.

Regardless of all the rumors of Jrts be snappy little ankle biters...  this isn't true. Just like not all pit bulls are vicious. In truth, these Jrts were bred to be hunting dogs. If your hunting, you don't want an aggressive dog on your hands making everything a lot more difficult. Also, its a disqualification in the ring if the dog bites, snaps, or growls at the judge. So yeah, they're supposed to be friendly. However... buying a dog from a responsible breeder will decrease the chances of having a human aggressive Jack.. for they pick their parents wisely.

Yes. They can be very dog aggressive. It can be because of bad training, no socialization, poorly bred... but it can also just be them. In fact, on the breed website it says that they can be very dog aggressive, and more than 2 should never be left unattended.

There's been stories of terriers who have always gotten along, and one day will just turn on each other. Whether it be for no reason, because of a toy, food, or jealousy.

However, I've found that the majority of Jrts I've seen (which I've seen over 1000) have been dog friendly. Some half and half. So don't let this bring you down xDDD

    They have very high intelligence.

Though I must add... if your thinking about getting one because of their cuteness,  because Wishbone, Frasier, and Skip were cute and funny... I must ask you not to get one. Unless you have other reasons such as your interested in a working dog, and that your ready for the challenege of keeping, and owning one of these extraordinary little terriers, then heck! Go for it!

If you have anymore questions, feel free to e-mail me at JRTFX@yahoo.com. If you ever get a Jrt, and need advice, remember.. I've studied, and handled them in the show ring, and in the field for 9 years... and I don't mind helping. again, just e-mail me! Or, if you just want to talk terriers... E-MAIL me! xD

Hope that helped! Have a nice day!

  4. Ours is about 4 months old.  She's definitely wild, but I'm not sure if it's just because she's a puppy.  Everyone says that they are hyper dogs though.  We have 2 little boys, and she is great with them.  They are pretty rough with her, and she rarely growls or bites at them.  She doesn't bark too often either which is also a good thing.

  5. Only if you have enough space for them to run around outside and can stand their non-stop barking. Other than that they are great dogs to have, not for an apartment though. They are very loving and affectionate and very smart dogs.

  6. Jack Russells are smart and lively.  They needs LOTS of interaction, movement, and training to be happy.  They are easily bored and a bored dog can be naughty!  If you get a Jack Russell then know you will need to pay lots of attention to him/her.

    PS- They bark a lot!

  7. Intelligent, very high energy, likes to bark at everything, needs a lot of attention and walks, tries to be a dominate.  If you are a stay at home person who likes to take long walks and play with your dog a lot this is the breed for you

  8. I've always had a Jack around...

They are a wonderful dog but not for a first time dog owner.

    They need experienced training.

Not for high traffic areas like an apt. or townhouse.

They are territorial and will alert to every passing person.

Only from a reputable AKC breeder as many are bred by breeder s who have not followed breed standards and produce aggressive scary fireballs.

  9. Myself and my Maltese recently moved in with my Brother and Sister in law.  They have a Jack Russell.  And I can't tell you how cute they are together.  They play all day long.  And my dog is infatuated with Cookie.  My Lily  follows  her all over the house, it is so cute.

I've taken both dogs on walks and Cookie is very curious about other small animals like squirrels and stuff.   The other day she was sniffing in some bushes and next thing I know a little bunny rabbit runs from the bushes trying to get away from her.  I guess Cookie had already gotten to her,  poor thing flipped over a couple of times before it died.    :(     Cookie also tries to get under the shed in the back yard and catch mice.  She's kinda like a cat in that way I guess.

My brother said it is their  nature, but I'm def gonna watch her more next time I take her for a walk.  She is a very cute dog though and my dog totally loves her.  So, I would say 2 thumbs up on Jack Russel Terriers

Edit:  My brother's dog doesn't bark that much at all.   She is about 7.  So, I don't know if it has something to do with their age.
