I would like to join the Peace Corps. Unfortunately, I have a bad credit rating. Would this affect my joining?

Think really bad. And unpaid debts.

  1. I would check the Peace Corps website and/or talk to a counselor.  I would not think so, but you do have to sustain yourself and you need money to do so.  I don't imagine they want people who would find themselves homeless themselves upon return because of bad debt issues.


  2. They never used to check for credit. They want to know if you will embezzle funds if you are entrusted with money. /

  3. My advice would be to meet with a recruiter in your area.  Through reading on the web I saw that Bankruptcy may be a problem but there are many other quality's that they take into consideration about you.  Like languages, previous community work.  Schooling, interest's, skills.. ect.  

  4. Yes. You can't use the Peace Corps to run out on your creditors, and your living allowance won't be enough to cover your living expenses and let you make payments. So, if you are under a mountain of debt they won't take you.
