  1. You should check with your town/city council.  But where i am as long as you work within the existing roof covered area you dont need building permit.  If you build without and find out you needed a permit, you will be made to demolish it if found out.

  2. it changes from county to county, city to city, town to town. but usually you have to a building permit regardless of size and usually doesn't matter what you build deck, shed, addition to your house. it doesn't matter you have to have a building permit contact your county office to find out for sure and if you have a home owners association you have to check with them too and both of them have to approve before you can build.

  3. You need to contact your local authority.

Typically, size isnt what makes a permit a requirement, it is whether the addition is a permanent part of the structure, or a 'stand alone' portable 'shed'.  Some communities even have restrictions and permit requirements on these.  So... you need to call your local permit office.

(And DO contact them first... they REALLY don't like finding out about these things after the fact, hehehe)

    Good Luck

  4. I'm not sure where you live, but in most US cities it's required you have a building permit for any addition no matter how big or small.  You may want to check the codes where you live for a solid answer.
