I would like to know is october month right time to visit hill stations?

I plan to go for a trip to north hill station. want to see snow fall so where can i see snow fall? i heard in katmandu(nepal) we can see snow fall.! is that true... just give me nepal, buttan or hills like shimla kullu manali or darjeling can i see snow fall?
