  1. 12v batteries or AA batteries for portables. You CAN get a portable for a non electric boat. I have an Eagle Cuda that uses 8 AA batteries. I've heard of some that use C and D cell batteries, never seen one though! Here's a link to check out portables. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa...  The Eagle Cuda 168.  http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores...

  2. I only know of fish finders that run off of a 12 volt battery

  3. My fishfinder runs on a 12V marine starter battery. Optima makes a d**n good marine battery. However if you do not have a way to recharge you battery on the boat then go with a 12V Deepcycle battery. Deepcycle batterys are made to last longer  but lowering the amperage that you need to run your equipment.  For fishfinders you do not need high amperage... about 5 at the most. your engine battery is designed to put out up to 600 amps. So, you best bet would be to go with a lower amp - deep cycle - marine battery. Walmart has 2 different brands to include the optimas for 80 - 100 bucks depending on where you live
