  1. As I said in another of your many pseudonym questions, it is usually a joint decision.  Usually the stay-at-home parent (or the one with more free time) does the research about it before deciding.

My husband and I both had different reasons for wanting to HS our son.  But it is LEGAL here in the USA.  It appears it is not in your country, whatever that is.  I would assume your husband doesn't want to take the risk of doing anything illegal under communism.

Why are you trying to hard to find out about HS'ing in the USA?  Are you planning on moving here?????

  2. We're in Canada.  I was the first one in my family to suggest homeschooling.  My husband took a little convincing, but by the end of the first semester, he was sold.  Our kids are doing SO much better.  They're very interested in what they're learning, because they get to choose it.  They're all at least one to three grade levels ahead.  Most importantly, they're HAPPY.

To Hannah M:  I like you.  You're a bright, articulate, free thinker. I'll bet your parents are proud of you.

  4. my husband...

he wanted to have charlie at home more often...

    when i wasnt home....

  5. Hmm, I'm 15 and one of 9 siblings all of whom are or will be home educated. We're unschoolers.

I don't think either of my parents consciously chose to home educate us; they just knew that was the way it was always going to be (the closest school to our house is a two day drive away).

Which one of our parents wanted us to be reared as unschoolers? Dad. That is not to say Mum objected to us growing up unschooled (whatever we want to learn is fine by her) but Dad's the parent who insists that we should be encouraged away from spending our time on conventional or traditional school subjects and towards acquiring those skills and knowledge that will actually benefit us in our future.

My dad's more radical than my mum though. I *think* Mum would listen to me if I said I wanted to go away to school. Okay, she would think I had lost my mind but she'd listen (lol). If I told my dad that I wanted to go to school, I know I'd have Buckleys chance of getting him to even consider the idea! He'd just say 'tough!' or something like that, lol.

  6. It was initially my idea, but my husband eventually decided to let me try it and he now thinks it is great for our children.

Here are some tips for working with a husband who is against homeschooling:
