My uncle is hooking me up with a honda 50 that has sat out in teh elements since the 80s... what work likely needs to be done on it and where can i learn about it

carbs cleaned... if there is rust on things what to do?

I am really interested in the project but dunno where to start i have 3 yrs of auto tech from high school... but that is cars

  1. Carbs rarely rust, non ferrous parts, mostly,  get a carb kit and go to it!

  4. Many community colleges have "small engine" repair workshop and pretty cheap.

  5. Beg, borrow, buy or steal a workshop manual for your model (either manufacturer or after market). A good manual with detailed photos and parts guide should enable someone with a little mechanical knowledge fix the basics easily.

    Don't invest in parts until you diagnose all possible problems and check out the engine. Just because you get it for free doesn't mean it won't cost you.
