Hi everyone,

I studied french at school, which is now 8years ago. However I'd like to start learning again.

Id like to learn at home as there isn't any classes in my area.

I was wondering whats the best way to go about it?

I know many french people know alot of english, how do they come to learn it?

Id like to be able to watch a french film and understand it.

Is there anyone here who's learnt a foreign language all by themselves?

  1. Google as "french tutorial" you will find sites that will help you learn again.

  2. Just try the French method: ASSIMIL.Le français sans efforts, a book with colloquial French with CDs. for pronounciation.

  3. because you already recognise the language, maybe try buying some gcse revision books for french which will remind you of the basics.then try watching the movies in french with subtitles and see how much you can understand.you minght want to try listening to some french music also and maybe visit some web sites where you can practice reading.

  4. Learning a language is something like learning to dance. Unless you practise everyday the steps, you will not learn fast. If you were living in Paris or Montreal, your efforts could be less as you have to live with a large french speaking public. But if you are in a place where very few talk French, it is very difficult to learn the language. You should also be serious about the learning and not take it as a hobby. You can try the following site where they offer free online course in French.

    www.bbc.co.uk/languages/french/

  5. wwwRosettaStone.com

It's number one with every institution in the U.S.

I'm sure it will suit you well.
