  1. Why don't you just take some swimming lessons? or get someone you trust to teach you.

The truth is simple. If you just jump in you will either sink or swim literally.

    Seriously get some swim lessons

  2. ok just like get in the water and if there are handle bars hold on to it, then once you've done that gently kick off the bottom with your feet. relax. you start floating. then once you get into the hang of it turn over and just breathe through your mouth.  Take a deep breathe first! while still hanging onto the bars. then once you've got that done then you should have no problem.

but make sure your like in the 4ft. area. so that you can stand up or squat in the water with your head is not in the water.

  3. When you jump in you do sink but if you relax  you will eventually come back up. I would suggest jumping in but have someone who is a very good swimmer next to you just for safety precautions.

  4. Im not sure what would happen depending on how deep the pool is.But i think that u can just walk in slowly n just go from there.Try to go across the pool without touching the floor or walls to help n if u can do that then u can try the harder stuff like back strokes and handstands. Good luck hope u do great!!!!

  5. "just jump in" is not the best advice in the world :)

If the water is deep enough for you to be in over your head you will go under.  If you are scared and don't know how to swim, this might lead you to panic.  So, I don't recommend doing it this way.  If you have access to a pool with a shallow end, wade into the pool stick to the side with your hand on the side to give you confidence that you can pull yourself out if you think you need to.  Build your confidence this way.  Once you feel less threatened by the water... walk to a point where you can still touch bottom but the water is like up round your shoulders. Hold onto the side and let the water float you up... get used to that feeling and go from there.

  6. I could not swim a l**k 4 years ago; I couldn't even float.  My friend and I took adult swim class at a YMCA that is in the next county over and the instructor had me swimming by the end of the class which was just an hour long!  The class was four weeks long.  By the last class, I was swimming the length of an Olympic size pool without a problem.  My friend and I had to pay just a little more for  the class because we aren't YMCA members but the class was still around $60.  It was the best $60 that I have ever spent.  I was 27 years old when I took the class and my friend was close to sixty years old.  (I never knew exactly how old she was until we did the swim class.  I always just assumed she was around 40!  She has taken very good care of herself.)  If she and I can learn to swim in just four weeks, I know anyone can.

  7. make sure thjat you are in a place were there is a lifeguard.  They will help you.  Go in the shallow end and just get used to it.  Or you can take swim lessons

  8. You don't want to "just jump in the pool". You want to take lessons from qualified instructors (probably from your local YMCA or some such) . They will guide you every step of the way and make sure you learn properly.
