I would like to make a 5 year old girl a present out of papier mache i have round balloons but not long ones?

Question

i have absolutely loads of different paints and round balloons i just have no idea what would be a nice thing perhaps to hang on her ceiling in her bedroom

i dont mind using card paper or paint but i have no money to buy any thing extra

any ideas would be great

i am quite arty so if it is a difficult shape it dosent matter i will be able to manage

We used ballons and rolled up newspapers to create big paper mache "monsters" in my jr year crafts class, it was a load of fun, you can make legs arms and bodys "stick" figure style and have a giant head to paint. Mine was purple and teal with fangs and claws and wings, lol, and I kept it until my college roommate sat on it when we were drunk, lol, we sprayed it with lacquer so it would last, nice clear coat is neccessary. Just save anything you can that would be good to help with your present. You could save toilet roll tubes, cereal boxes, jam jar lids, plastic bottle tops and sweet wrappers. Once you have collected quite a few items, an idea will pop up. Good luck. x

I saw someone blow up a balloon, cover it in papier mache and when it was set, cut the paper machine in half. So what you were left with was a hallow ball in half. Then you painted the ball, for example a frog with one half being the head and the other being the bottom, so that when you sat them on top of each other it looked like a whole frog, and when you opened it you were opening the mouth. Then you could fill it with anything, from sweets to using it as a room tidy.

I say, vici, I think that is most admirable. Jolly good show. Methinks the little girl will be more pleased with whatever you make than she would with these d**n nuicence game boy things and electronic widgets.

I am trying to cast my mind back to when daddy made me my toys and I enjoyed and played with them lots.

If I have any ideas my good lady I will pop back and ediit the answer.

I say, I've just thought of a spiffing thing you can make. Use the round ballons to mould paper mache and paint lots of smileys - say a different one for everyday. One could be called Monday, the next Tuesday and so on   ... help to teach her the days of the week as well.
