I would like to make my basement a better living space

i want to do this without remodeling because i am only 14 and my parents wont get the basement done over. any ideaS?

You can get some canvas and do your own style of paintings for your  own look. Fun funky colored pillows (Target or Ikea) Paint lamp shades to fit in with your look, you can find these at thrift stores.

Look at area carpets for a new look to.

Would be good to know if your a girl or a boy.

If they are okay with you painting then this is always a great way to get a space feeling better, pick something light and bright, maybe a sunny yellow or a cool blue.  You could also do some second hand shopping on craigslist to find some cool furniture and make the purchase by selling old items that you have in there, which will keep your budget minimal.  Ask you parents for a budget and then start shopping.  For art you can buy plain canvases and paint them or have some pictures of the family blown up to poster size.  Rearrange the furniture that you have and consider finding some cheap sheets to make curtains and furniture covers.  Paint furniture to update it and a good cleaning goes a long way on making places feel better to be in.
