I would like to move to australia to work for initially a year, but if I like I would look @ the possibility of staying. I am 21 have a degree in architectural technology and would be going on my own. Just wondered if anyone else had done this and how they found it.

  1. i say do it if you really want, but think of your family and friends? can you really live without them?

  2. I assume you will get a working holiday visa for a year first.

    http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-...

That allows you time to have a proper look at the place, and whilst here you could then start the ball rolling with a PR application.

There is a range of different General Skilled Migration visas available:

    http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s...

Three of these can be applied for, and granted, while you are in Australia.

Five can be granted while you are outside Australia"

Most people would return home to finalise the application.

  3. www.immi.gov.au

Australia now has a working holiday visa for anyone with a degree. Go for gold... u'll love it! My partners family have done it so if we can help at all.. let us know!

  4. Architect is on The Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) http://www.workingin-australia.com/info/...  - if that helps you?

Otherwise go to Immigration for Australia website - http://www.immi.gov.au and see what you qualify for.

    Good Luck

  5. I seriously considered this a number of years ago and spent a lot of time on their immigration pages.

From what I remember, they have some sort of point system.   The number of points one has is based on a number of factors (age and savings being two of them).  Another way to add points to your "desirability" is to have a profession they consider a needed skill in the market.

I am sure I am oversimplifying it, but it was along those lines.

That said, they appear to welcome in anyone who floats across the Torres Strait without a dime to their name, but give the 3rd degree to people with marketable skills and a sizable bank account.   Go figure.

  6. Im from Aus and Id say go for it. You only live once, youve got your whole life and career ahead of you and this is a great way to start it! Don't listen to the guy whose telling you you'd be leaving behind your family and friends. Afterall you think they would want you to go out and live your life.

Check out this link for more info:

These links contain the different VISA applications for people who are wanting to work in Aus, its pretty straight forward. Most are based on a points system and because you've finished a degree and have qualifications I dont see any reason why you wouldnt make the points:
