  1. If you could live on your retirement in the States (or wherever you are) you could probably live on it in Costa Rica, too. I recommend reading both "Living Abroad in Costa Rica" by Erin Van Reenan and "Howe to Buy Real Estate in Costa Rica Without Losing your Camisa" by Scott Oliver. Here's are two short reviews that I wrote on the books:

Scott Oliver also has a great website on real estate in Costa Rica:

  2. It's a beautiful place. You would love it. So much to see and do. I have been here for 2 months and forgot what it's like to feel stress. Ah, the life!

  3. Depends on your retirement.  I live pretty well on $1000 /mo.

I suguest you make a few trips to see if you like it.  Many areas different climates  .  Do you like mountains or beach.  City or country.  Lots of options.

Come try it on for size.

  4. I would say realistically it will take $2000 a month to live in any comfort in Costa Rica. But that depends on your lifestyle and your habits.

Take a look here under Costa Rica information there is a lot of info including what kind of costs you can expect

  5. If you can retire in the U.S. then you can afford to retire in C.R.. Just be VERY carefull when purchasing property there. There are some very strange laws concerning ownership down there. If you get serious about this then e-mail me & I'll conect you with some friends of ours that live in Denver and bought a lovelly house down there. I know they use Jorge Mendez at Emerald Shores Realty in Playa Flamingo Guanacaste to handle it as a rental when they are not there.  We met Jorge last spring and found him to be a fantastic person, very helpfull and full of information.
