Alot of people have told me I should open my own business and/or be a manager. I am a licensed esthetician so it would be a spa-type business i would open. i never really took this seriously because i am HORRIBLE at math i'm talking bad. i can add, subtract, multiply, divide. but, for new things or lots of numbers i just take forever to get my brain to click. it interests me, i guess i was wondering if i even got a chance at opening a business? can i have other people's opinion on this?

  1. First off, don't ever let math or accounting trouble keep you from opening a business...those problems are easily remedied by either using a software like quickbooks, or even just hiring a part time book keeper (stay at home moms and high school seniors work really well here).

Second, if your good at your job I say go for...just make sure you incorporate (to protect your personal assets should the business fail) and if at all possible try to find a mentor, someone who opened their own business in the same or similar field, to kind of guide you through the first months.  h**l you can even put them on your executive board and pay them if u want.

  2. Go for it.

  3. Dear,

there have been tons of people without even a high school education open businesses and become very successful.

The only person that stands between you and success is YOU!

  4. There's no law that says you have to have good bookkeeping for anything other than your taxes. Just wing it.

Hang onto all your receipts, put money aside on any money you collect that is traceable (if someone pays with a check then sock away half of it, if someone pays with cash then put it in your pocket.) At the end of the year you'll have more than enough to pay the taxes on your claimed income, and then just hire H&R Block to file for you.
