I am pretty sure the fabric is polyester. I have seen them screen printed with logos, but I want to do this myself to save money. I want to put her name across the top of the backrest. It is one of those fold-up lawn chairs. Here is a link to the type of chair http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_089W378522110001P

  1. You can buy fabric paint markers in most craft stores, and they might be easier to write with. If that's not an issue, either buy a bottle of fabric paint, or buy 'textile medium' to mix with acrylic craft paint.

Whatever you use, read the instructions and make sure that it doesn't require heat-setting at a temperature that would melt the chair fabric. (The chair probably has a tag with fiber content on it.)

    Good luck.

  2. There are several brands of paint made specifically for fabric.  Plaid is the one I'm familiar with.  Just don't use regular acrylic craft paint or it will flake off.  You can get fabric paint in a spray can and use a stencil to spray on her name, or you can buy small bottles of the color(s) you want, and use a brush to put her name on.

  3. Any of the fabric paints available at the craft store will be right.  After they dry on fabric, they become water resistant.  A suggestion, after you paint it, outline it with a black paint pen (or some other coordinating color) to make it POP.

  4. there is (or was?) a great brand of acrylic paint that does not flake. i painted a leather jacket in 1993 and it hasn't even cracked.

    it's called liquitex.
