  1. Actually, it would be best to buy the ticket well in advance so it will be cheaper.  And due to the time it will take you to get to Amsterdam from london, you should stay at least two nights there to actually get an idea of the city.  Wouldnt be fair to visit it for half a day.... you might be able to find a cheap flight from London to Amsterdam via Ryan Air or even Easy jet... Sometimes its just cheaper to do that as it will take about 6 hours to get to Amsterdam from london and im sure about 2hrs tops to get to Amsterdam... but like I said, one day is NOT enough to visit... thats not a very good day trip.  Day trip would be Paris, not Amsterdam... you'll regret just being there a few hours with so muc to do there!

Good luck, hope it works out for you!

  2. Another option is booking a ferry ticket at http://www.directferries.co.uk/ they have some real nice prices.

Hope you will enjoy your stay in Amsterdam!

By the way, the site http://www.aboutamsterdam.info offers information on the history of amsterdam, places to go in Amsterdam and much more!

    Hope this will help you,

    Bobby
