I don't want to spend an ungodly amount of money, but I really want my money's worth. I thought about guided tours as well, but I'm really stuck. I just want to know more about Ireland as a place to visit. Please help!

  1. Book your flights and accommodation all seperate yourself via the Internet.  You can book hostels and this'll keep the cost of your accommodation down somewhat.  If you are a student, you may be entitled to apply for a USIT Travel Card which will reduce your travelling costs substantially.

Around 50euro a day will keep you sweet in terms of food etc, although 20-30 could get you through the day fine too.  Anymore than this would secure you a very good time.  Guided tours vary from place to place, but there are not many attractions in Ireland that are so big that they need a guided tour.

    Some general prices

    Loaf of bread 1.60euro

    Pint of Beer 3.00-4.00euro

    Bottle of wine supermarket 8euro

    McDonalds Meal 6euro

    Nice Pub Lunch 10euro

    Nice Evening Meal 20-50euro

    Prices are all displayed outside.

I really think you should go to the Republic of Ireland, I've lived in both Northern Ireland and the Republic and for the authentic Irish experience the Republic wins hands down. Also safer and better atmosphere and friendlier people (sorry, just my personal experiences and opinion).

  2. I went with www.sceptretours.com  I have trip booked for $800 w/air, room and car out of DC.

  3. Go to Ireland during low season (Oct-Feb) as you will save money and the availability of accomodation is better.

Try getting a package on expedia.  They will bundle air, car hire (if you want), and hotel together.  Or you could book a cheap flight with Aer Lingus and try to get a hotel deal (Jury's, Mespil, Christchurch Hall apts., Temple Bar hotel, etc).  These hotels tend to do specials during low season.; check their websites.  When you get to Ireland, you will find many tours that start from Dublin.  Go to the tourist office on Suffolk Street when you get to Dublin (it is in an old church right off Grafton Street and near Trinity). Many tour operators do day trips to places like Newgrange, Glendalough in County Wicklow, Waterford, Kilkenny, etc.  These are good if you will be staying in Dublin and do not want to break up your trip and switch hotels.  There is also a "hop on hop off" bus tour of Dublin.  You will hit the tourist spots in Dublin and it is reasonable.  During low season, these tours are not as crowded.

    Good Luck!

  4. It depends where you live kind of. IM a recent traveler to Ireland(Family). I really think you should go to Northern Ireland, Belfast..Its the nicest and most historic place ever. People are really nice. You can understand what the h**l people sya in Southern Ireland. You should book with Orbit,(it really is cheap!)You should fly before the ThanksGiving Season. Try and book a flight to London Gatwick..and Into Northern Ireland, Belfast City Airport.Send me an email if u need help. sda2kool_04@yahoo.com
