  1. Try The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen Jay Gould! It's really great. You can find reviews on Amazon.com if you're interested.

  2. There is no one book that can answer the questions you have. Anthropology is a large and diverse field. I could name 100 books but what is your particular interest.  Rise and Demise. Siberian curse, Kinship and Gender,Global Formation,  Human Georgraphy,  I can go on and on. And no you cant borrow my books Ha Ha..Search for your interest on the internet. Then search the used book stores for them. As they are not cheap.

  3. The Invention of Culture by Roy Wagner is a great place to start.  Once you get the basics, it will be easier for you to choose where you want to go from there.  Also, you could read any book on the history of anthropology.  A historical overview would help you understand the science and give you a very strong foundation to build from.
