I would like to see Max Mosley return to the Formula 1 – Bernie Ecclestone
FIA’s CEO Bernie Ecclestone stated that he would be interested in seeing Max Mosley return to the sport but in a different role this time.
Max Mosley was the former president of the FIA. He chose not to stand for the re-elections for the position last year and decided to help Jean Todt in the running instead.
“Yeah, I didn't want him to go. It would be nice to have him back,” he said.
Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone were great friends and worked together in order to take the sport to a higher level. Bernie stated during an interview with a website that he would love to see his friend return to the sport.
Another website reported that Max Mosley was also eager to return to the sport and therefore planned an overthrow, to reduce the power of the current FIA president Jean Todt. This rumour was widely publicized and ignited some friction between the two.
The website stated that these retaliations were a response to the changes that were planned to build the FIA as a more democratic organization and a sort of a disagreement over the future of Formula 1.
“We want to work well together into the future,” said Bernie Ecclestone.
Looking at this situation from a different perspective, the smaller capacity turbo engines are expected to return to F1 and the sport’s commercial rights that are under Ecclestone’s control will also be finalised before the 100-year lease by the Formula
1 Management. This agreement was also passed during Mosley’s time.
“We could go back to the FIA and FISA. Max could be president of the FIA looking after Formula One and Jean could be president of FISA running the sporting side,” Bernie Ecclestone answered when asked about Mosley’s return.
Ecclestone believes that the teams will not mind if Mosley returns. Ecclestone also requires coming to peace with Todt as he wants to work with him in the future. However, Ecclestone said he also wants a new period of peace with Todt.
On the other hand, Jean Todt claimed that the rumours about these developments were exaggerated. He believes that if Mosley offers him his advice, the FIA president would not mind as he is already not interfering much with what the officials in the sports
are doing.
