The game of Chess has become almost predictable and played with standard moves and countermoves by the game masters. I would like to see a variant of this boardgame where both players choose the arrangement of their officials while the pawns still keep the usual front squares. The arrangement shall be discrete until the players face each during the game.

  1. go to a  cheese factory or search online for various cheeses

  2. there is something like that. "game of Chess has become almost predictable and played with standard moves " lots of games will end up in a weird sidelines. and for that variation is also predictable: control center and develop.

  3. In addition to Fischer Random Chess (mentioned in a previous answer), what's stopping you from playing a game against a friend in which you each choose your own starting configuration of pieces?  (In FRC, the starting position is chosen for you).

Just keep in mind when you choose your starting position that you place your two Bishops on opposite colors and make sure that you have a Rook on either side of the King (and learn the FRC castling rules).

If you're so advanced as a player that  you are bored with the predictability of chess openings, I'm surprised you haven't already heard of FRC.

The idea of FRC, of course, is to take the well known "opening" stage of the game out of it, and immediately begin the game in a more tactical position.

Some software, such as Fritz, and generate FRC opening positions from which you can play.

And again, if you wanted, you and a friend could set up your own opening positions (make sure that you each cover up your end of the board when you do it) and play from there.

Books such as "Modern Chess Openings" are encyclopedic in their detail and exhaustive listings of openings and variations.   Do you have those memorized yet?

It sounds like you are just bored because playing through master games, you're finding that the opening  is somewhat predictable...   If that's the case, then you can either play variations such as FRC or just study middle games and endgames.

There are some grandmaster level players that have taken on the challenge of FRC, but as far as I know, there hasn't really been any major FRC tournaments involving high level players as of yet.

  4. That is nice.  Go play your variation.  I'll play chess.

  5. Hello --

There are a lot of chess variants out there ... I think you might be interested in Fischer Random Chess ...

This page is specifically about FRC but the site has a lot of other variants.

    Best of luck,
