  1. donate money to a kid that you know... most schools do that and tell the kids to bring in as much money as you can the next week... i did that last year!

  2. Pick a country, then pick a state, then pick a city, because the laws for Africa vary from place to place just like they do in the USA. If you don't already have a great deal of contacts and experience in whatever city you choose, then you are NOT ready to start a charity in Africa.

I agree with others who have said you need to join existing initiatives working in Africa if you are looking to make a difference. There are many doing *excellent* work, and they may be able to help you help those you want to help. My favorites are:

    CARE International

    Madre.org

    OxFam

    Save the Children UK

    ActionAid

  3. not to be insensitve but isnt there enough going to africa? oprah, brad joeline, feed the children, bill gates and a host of others donating. is there progress not being made with all that clout?

  4. I agree with the corruption in Africa posts. There are already so many people doing things for people in Africa why do you pick .... oh .... the USA to donate time and effort too. You can help one person at a time. I know its not as exotic but it is still helping.

Get people jobs, get people to help others to fix cars that are broke so people can go to work, get clothing to children, show people how to become economically sound, get tutoring programs going to help people learn to read and get them in college because many of them could get in for free if they just had a chance.

I think all American children should have to do a mandatory 2 years of service (1 Year before college, 1 year after college) of volunteer work and govt work so they understand how things work.

  5. Couldnt you just join one.

With all these different charities (not that its a bad thing) im sure loads of money is being lost.

I think there should be jsut a few main charitys for the main aspects that need aid.

  6. How much money do you have and can you loose it all, because my friend, there are lots of people, especially in Africa that are more than willing to take and take and take.  Stay away from countries like Nigeria and Ghana.  They seem to have more than their share of crooks, just waiting for a good person to come along.  Don't be in too big of a hurry to help.  Contact the Red Cross and see what they have to say!

  7. Although your intentions are good, I would suggest studying already established chariies and asking them about creating a branch that benefits them. These organizations go through a LOT of red tape in formation and implemantation. They have to get government approval for tax exemptions here (if your are going to be based in the US) and government tax exemption in the countries they operate in.

You can form a branch, support arm, for an already established charitable group and specify where and how you want the money you raise used.

    Good luck.

  8. Africa.
