  1. try and see if you can get some voluntary or payed work in summer holidays in private nursery or local play schemes hands on is brilliant. Your local library will have a list of these in your area.

mary Sheridan is a good old faithfull book I used but to be honest wait until you start it is like learning to drive a car without lessons then going for lessons bad habits can be picked up.

Start afresh but look for the work during holidays hands on with the children is invaluable. Also will make you look at if it is truly what you want to do.

Good luck and nice to see some eagerness.

  2. I can't really think of any books to help prepare you.  I mean, there are literally thousands of parenting and child development books out there, but many of them are conflicting, and you don't know that they won't conflict with what you're taught in the classroom and in the field.

If you haven't already done so, this could be a good time to get certified in first aid and CPR, which is something most daycares and preschools I know of insist their teachers know how to do.  Even if you end up at a school that doesn't require it, it's a really really good skill to have if you're going to be working around small children.

  3. I would go on the the DFES website / QCA  and request a copy of the curriculum guidance for the foundation stage and the Birth to three matters framework.  This is what is currently being used until next year when the Early Years Foundation stage will come into force - the DFES /QCA websites may even have some literature on this also.

If you have not already done so it would be wise to get some work experience even if it is only for a couple of weeks this will give you an insight as to how Foundtion Stage and Birth to three matters in the setting (they are a lot to get your head around) .  We had someone who came in voluntarily last year and we have since offered her a job as we do not want to loose her.  There is a possibility that they will be able to get grat funding to cover your training as well!

Good luck it is a great job I wouldn't swap it for the world

  4. Get some nursery rhymes and try to copy the tunes. Then go to some E-forums for PreSchool Groups...............

  5. Visit www.cache.org.uk  It's a website that lists all the relevent courses and you can download the course content to find out what you will be studying.
