Question:

I would like to swap from the speedtouch modem provided by Orange Broadband, to an ADSL router?

I've recently bought wireless adsl router, and a friend came round to install it for me. He connected it up fine, but the only websites that we could access were Orange.co.uk and Google.

I have tried to call Orange technical support and customer services, they say that they know what the problem is, but they cannot tell me unless i call an 09 number at £1 per min!

I loath to call this number, but can't anyway because my home phone is broken and you can't call an 09 number from a mobile!

Is there anything that can be done at this end, or do i really need to speak to Orange? Please help as i'm going round in circles!!!

  1. If you can access Orange homepage or Google then the router is working ok. All the router/modem does is interpret the broadband noises coming down the phone line into a signal the computer can understand.

Have you entered your username and password into the adsl router? If so, have you entered @fs on the end of your username? Your user name is the orange email address without the name@ on the front. i.e. surname.orangehome.co.uk@fs.

Tech support is 50p/min by the way not a £1. What package are you on; is it Home Starter or Broadband starter cos these are the 090 number?

    If it is an old £17.99 package or dearer then tech support is 0844 873 8586 option 1 - 5 - 4 - 2 in that sequence.

Finally, you say your home phone is broken. Do you mean the phone instrument or the line itself? If the line has a problem you won't get broadband because the adsl circuit will have been broken. A new provide would have to be set up through orange and BT wholesale which can take up to 10 days.

  2. If you can get google then what is stopping you getting anything ?

I have had a speedtouch modem too from Orange I chucked that straight away and have wireless now. I have no problem.

orange are trying to rip you off. But I get my calls on national rate because I have a decent package not the budget one.
