I have studied the art for a good several years and I would like to teach basic skills from my home. I would not do this to get rich but because I enjoy it. I was thinking about two or three students at a time. I have a basic business plan but I would like to hear thoughts on this matter.

  1. Again, if you are qualified to teach, then, perhaps.  However, it may be wise to consult with an attorney to review what you should have in place in terms of Waivers (not worth much really, but it's a deterent) Insurance and even licensing for your city/state if you intend to run this as a business or how to structure it otherwise so that you don't end up losing your home for merely teaching from it.

  2. If you're a qualified person like the rest say. My instructor teaches Wing Chun in his own house, he has a rice bag, punching bag, a set of wooden dummies and a whole bunch of room. He is one of the best instructors for Kung Fu around California and yes, he teaches at his home. You don't need a dojang/kwoon for everything my friend.

  3. It's definitely not a bad idea..... go ahead.... actually, I was I can be one of your students....

  4. As long as you're qualified you can teach anywhere. Teaching will help you to see things differently, see things you normally pass over, as well as teaching you patience. Good luck!

  5. Like AAron said, if you are qualified, why not?

If you are not qualified, you could be taking a big risk. People can get injured in the silliest ways and since you are instructing them you could end up in a lot of trouble...even if the injury isn't "your fault"...

I once had a student (and luckily a personal friend), who slipped on the grass when he was stepping in an easy stance and broke his leg! I was so shocked! We were just training together (more as friends on that day) but it really woke me up tp the responsibility and risk of teaching and training.

  6. Yeah. You should if you think you can.
