i would like to be an elementary school teacher, and the university of oregon has one of the best education programs in the nation. The only thing is, i'm unfamiliar with how college goes for a future teacher. Is this "top education program" after an undergraduate degree is earned? I ask because i'd like to stay close to home for an undergraduate degree, then transfer to the University of Oregon. Thanks

  1. I think requirements for teaching vary from state to state. In the state I live in you have to have a BS in Education, you usually student teach at either the elementary, middle school, or high school level, (which one you choose depends on what grade level you'd like to teach at) While you can start teaching with your BS, you need to start ( and eventually complete, I'm assuming) a Master's in Education. Some universities are just better places to get your degree from if you want a good job, altho many universities offer degrees in Education ( I'm in the midwest, and Indiana University or Ball State in Indiana are the "top education" programs.) It's not like you get your BS in Education and then look for another undergrad degree thats a "top education program". You look to get into a university that's a top rated school for Education and get your Bachelor's Degree. In Oregon that may be all that's required, but if your asking if you need to get two separate undergrad degrees, the answer is no.
