I arrive in Santiago Jan 6,2008. I am trying to figure out the best way to explore Chile until I leave January 22. I will be in a party of 3 and I would like to go to Patagonia and see the ice flows and other sights but the 5 day cruise and airfare would run over $8000 US for 3 of us. Does anyone have any experience or pointers to share? I leave in a week.

  1. That is an expensive trip any way you slice it, but check out Lan chile's website for tips and they might have some deals. You are going during high season and many places will be booked, so be sure to get hotel rooms or some type of accomodations before you travel.

If you can't get to Patagonia or don't want to spend the money, try looking into Chiloé and Pucón.

The SERNATUR Website (Chilean tourism service) can be helpful as well (www.sernatur.cl). Enjoy your trip!

  2. Fly to Puerto Montt and then explore by bus (public transport service is excellent there) every little town until you reach Torres del Paine. Chilean Patagonia is beautiful, places like Coyaique, Paine, Punta Arenas, Petrohue, Puerto Varas, etc. If you want to go to the Glaciers, try Explora boats, they're the best.

  3. go to Vina del Mar
