I thought of pediatrics but then I was kind of drawn to gastroenterology because of my family and what they have endured and thought maybe that might be the way to go, but I just need some suggestions.

  1. orthodontist

  2. Specializing is only one option. You can become a General Practitioner, as in Family Medicine. You don't need to have an idea now, unless you are interviewing for medical school, and you want to have answer ready, even if it's that you don't know.

  3. Wait until year 3 or 4 of medical school before committing to a given specialty.

  4. how bout you become a doctor first, i am pretty sure when you do your internship, you will cycle through all the various specialties to get a taste of the different options, then you can decide from there

  5. you don't have to decide now. until the time you  graduate you will have the chance to experience a number of specialties and to see what are their advantages and disadvantages for you. then it will be much easier for you to decide.

  6. It's very hard to throw out suggestions without knowing you or your interests. My advice: go volunteer at a hospital and try to move around between departments. Get a feel for what each doctor does every day and then you can make a more educated decision.

  7. You don't have to decide now. When you go through medical school you go through rotations of various specialties, so you will get to see what all each specialty does. Go into a field that really interests you. If you find that you are interested in the heart and circulatory system then cardiology, if you like the nervous system then neurology, if you are into fast paced/quick thinking/acute care then emergency medicine might suit you. Give everything a chance and see what you like most. Don't do into a field just because of family or you have ties to it somehow. If you are interested in it then it would be okay, but don't go into something just for someone else.
